Rotational Leadership Pep Talk
Setting the Table for Rotational Leadership
Rotational leadership isn’t an exercise but rather a concept that needs to be understood by your players; specifically relating to the follower exercises of Thank The Passer, First Like and Detective.
Rotational leadership is the concept over-viewing the relationship between leader and follower. Rotational leadership is constantly moving, day-by-day, hour-by-hour, minute-by-minute, of roles between being a leader and a follower.
One minute you lead, next minute you follow. One minute you’re giving teammates advice, next minute they’re giving you advice. One minute coach is speaking and you’re listening, next minute coach asks you for input and now you’re leading.
Players go from leader to follower, back to leader, back to follower, all day every day. The leadership on the team is constantly rotating.
As a result, we need to perform just as well as a follower as we do a leader.
Because of rotational leadership, we need to work on our performance as a follower. And the good news is, when we perform well as followers, the leadership of those around us improves.
High-performing followers are easier to lead.
